Unauthorized access and exploitation of proprietary business information
In a recent development, the Public Prosecutor's Office Cologne is leading an investigation into a suspected trade secrets violation. Five former employees, aged 36, 45, 56, 56, and 59, are accused of unauthorizedly copying internal company documents, particularly on product developments.
The suspects are believed to have used this information to establish a branch of a competing company in Cologne. The company where they previously worked is not specified. However, it is known that the suspects currently work for a Cologne company specializing in solar and weather protection products.
The investigation began with search operations conducted early Thursday morning (31st July) at five residences in Cologne, Kerpen, and Mönchengladbach, as well as one business address in Cologne. During the search, investigators seized data carriers, laptops, mobile phones, and various documents.
The nature of the ongoing investigation is not yet clear, but it is understood that the investigation involves allegations of intellectual property theft. The company involved has not yet made a public statement regarding the matter.
