Unauthorized Laborers Apprehended in Göttingen and Goslar/ Shutdown of a Restaurant and Expulsion of a Thai Sex Worker
In a series of inspections conducted by the Financial Control Schwarzarbeit Göttingen of the Main Customs Office of Brunswick from January 6 to January 14, 2025, several instances of employment-related violations were uncovered in the districts of Göttingen and Goslar.
The inspections in the catering sector led to the apprehension of two groups of Asian workers. On January 12, 2025, four illegally employed workers were found at a restaurant in Bad Harzburg. Despite refusing to cooperate with customs officials, they were processed by the Goslar Police Inspectorate, and criminal proceedings were initiated against them for illegal entry and residence in Germany. The owner of the restaurant is currently under investigation for human trafficking and aiding the illegal entry and residence of the apprehended workers.
A second group of six Asian workers was arrested on January 16, 2025, at a restaurant in Göttingen. The search results do not provide any information about the owner of the restaurant. Investigations were initiated against the employees and employers in this case as well.
In a separate incident, a Thai prostitute who had been illegally residing in Germany since 2019 was apprehended at a Göttingen hotel on January 13, 2025. The apprehension was made during a joint inspection with the Göttingen Police Inspectorate in the erotic industry. The Thai prostitute was taken into custody by the police and later deported by plane to Thailand, following consultation with the responsible immigration authority in Lübeck.
The immigration authorities of the city and district of Göttingen were informed on January 16, 2025, and will decide on further measures. Similarly, the immigration authorities of the city and district of Goslar were informed on January 12, 2025, and the immigration authority of the district of Goslar will decide on further measures.
