Uncertainty over Martinez's Aston Villa continued future - Emery expresses doubts

In the bustling world of English football, Aston Villa find themselves grappling with early-season challenges. The Villa Park side have failed to win any of their opening three games in the 2025-26 Premier League season, marking their first such occurrence since the 2017-18 Championship season.

The heavy defeat at home against Crystal Palace, a 3-0 rout, was Aston Villa's heaviest home loss since a 4-0 drubbing by Tottenham in March 2024. Notably, the loss saw Emiliano Martinez, the club's reliable goalkeeper, left out of Unai Emery's squad.

Martinez's future at Aston Villa has been a subject of debate in recent months. Reports suggest that the Argentine shot-stopper is considering a move to Manchester United, after seeing struggles with Andre Onana and Altay Bayindir. However, a mooted switch to the Saudi Pro League failed to materialize for Martinez.

United are reportedly interested in a move for Martinez, but there is no specific club named for Emery and Aston Villa's speculation to sign the goalkeeper on the last day of the transfer window. Turkish clubs were reportedly interested, but Martinez did not want to move there.

Emery, in response to questions about Martinez's future at the club, repeated the name of new addition Marco Bizot. The Spanish manager stated that they need to fix their relationship with Martinez before the transfer window closes.

Aston Villa have made three signings so far in the 2025-26 season, welcoming Bizot, Yasin Ozcan, and Evann Guessand to the club. Emery expects something to improve the squad before the transfer window finishes, and he mentioned possible incomings ahead of Monday's deadline, after seeing his team slump to their second defeat of the new season.

As the transfer deadline approaches, Emery plans to try to recover Aston Villa's mentality after the break and play again at Everton. The challenge ahead is clear: for Aston Villa to turn their fortunes around and secure their place in the Premier League.
