On August 25, 2023, at 10:25 AM, the Braunschweig Police issued a call for witnesses following a traffic accident on the A36 towards Braunschweig. The incident occurred between the Wolfenbüttel-South and -West junctions.

According to investigations, a driver of a black SUV was involved in the incident. The driver is suspected of turning around on the highway against the direction of traffic, using the rescue lane. This behaviour is considered extremely reckless and dangerous, as it could potentially hinder rescue services.
