Samsung and JBL: A Partnership Pushing Boundaries in Audio Technology

In 2014, Samsung announced a strategic partnership with JBL, a leading brand in the audio industry. This partnership has proven to be a significant move for both companies, enabling them to expand their offerings and push the boundaries of audio technology.

JBL, founded in 1946 in the United States by James Bullough Lansing, is renowned for its high-quality speakers, headphones, and soundbars. On the other hand, Samsung, which was founded in 1938 in South Korea as a trading company, has grown to become one of the world's largest technology companies, offering a vast range of products.

The partnership aimed to integrate JBL's audio technology into Samsung's products, such as smartphones, tablets, and wearables. This collaboration has led to the development of co-branded products, such as the Samsung Level On Wireless headphones. However, it's important to note that the partnership has not resulted in Samsung's acquisition of JBL. JBL remains a separate entity within the Harman portfolio, which is a subsidiary of Samsung Electronics.

For JBL, this partnership allows the brand to benefit from Samsung's resources and expertise. Yet, JBL's brand identity has not been significantly affected. Its customer support remains independent, and JBL products are designed to be compatible with a wide range of devices, not just Samsung devices.

The acquisition of Harman International Industries, JBL's parent company, by Samsung in 2017 for approximately $8 billion, has further strengthened this partnership. This move has also enabled Samsung to expand its presence in the automotive and audio markets.

With Samsung's backing, we may see new product categories emerge from JBL, such as smart speakers and audio-enabled wearables. This partnership is indeed a step forward in the audio industry, with both companies poised to make significant strides in the realm of audio technology.
