In a remarkable turn of events, Lucas Horne, a 26-year-old artist from Nottinghamshire, has been shortlisted for the prestigious Future Sound Awards. Known by his stage name The BTO Kid, Lucas has made a name for himself by leveraging AI in his music, a testament to the growing adoption of this technology in the industry.

The journey of The BTO Kid began in December 2016 when, at the age of 17, Lucas suffered a traumatic brain bleed. The exact nature of the AVM that caused this incident is not specified, but it led to a significant period of recovery for Lucas, spending three years in a care home.

During his time in the care home, Lucas found solace in writing songs, an outlet for his thoughts and feelings. However, upon waking up from the coma, Lucas could not walk or talk for a significant period. This monotone speaking style posed a challenge when it came to recording his music, but Lucas saw AI as a tool for good. He utilised it to augment his music, enabling him to express his feelings and create music he's proud of.

The opening line of Lucas's shortlisted track, titled "AI Gave Me A Voice," reflects his personal journey. The song begins with, "I pinch myself every day because this just can't be true."

Lucas's music is a reflection of his experiences and perspective, and he takes pride in creating something unique. Contrary to some comparisons in the industry, Lucas does not aim to emulate the style of other artists, but rather, he seeks to create music that resonates with his audience.

The adoption of AI in music saw a significant surge last year, with 60 million users leveraging AI tools. Lucas's inclusion in the Future Sound Awards shortlist highlights the role of AI in music innovation. He is one of 15 creators shortlisted for the awards, a testament to the impact of this technology in the music industry.

Despite the arguments against the use of AI in music, Lucas believes that it has allowed him to create something he couldn't before. He views it as a tool that enhances his creativity, rather than replacing it.

As The BTO Kid continues to make waves in the music industry, his story serves as a reminder of the power of perseverance and the transformative potential of technology.
