Pegasus World Cup Invitational: Arrogate Upsets California Chrome for the Richest Victory in Horse Racing

The Pegasus World Cup Invitational, the richest horse race in the world with a $12 million purse, took place at Gulfstream Park in Hallendale Beach, Florida, near Miami, on Saturday. The headlining duo in the field was Arrogate and California Chrome, two of the best racehorses from around the country.

In a surprising turn of events, Arrogate upset California Chrome, who is the richest North American racehorse of all time, to claim victory in the Inaugural Pegasus World Cup Invitational. Arrogate, with 30-1 morning line odds, finished the race in 3rd place, while California Chrome ended up in 9th place.

Shaman Ghost, owned by Stronach Stables and Adena Springs, finished in 2nd place, just behind Arrogate. The owner of Shaman Ghost, who finished second in the first Pegasus World Cup, is not explicitly mentioned in the search results. However, Shaman Ghost is a notable horse standing at Adena Springs North in Aurora, Ontario, and has connections to prominent breeders and racing stables there.

Breaking Lucky, a horse familiar with Canadian tracks, finished in 8th place, while Prayer for Relief, owned by The Zayat Stables, finished in 10th place. Keen Ice, a participant in the 2016 Breeder's Cup Classic, finished in 4th place, and Neolithic, with 30-1 morning line odds, finished in 3rd place. Eragon, a lightly raced horse purchased by James McIngvale, finished last in the race.

The top 3 finishers received an impressive prize: $7 million for the winner, $1,750,000 for second place, and $1,000,000 for third place. Finishers in 4th or worse received $250,000 each.

Unfortunately, Gun Runner, a horse that many thought would be a contender, was not able to participate in the Pegasus World Cup Invitational due to an EHV-1 virus outbreak.

The victory played out in peculiar fashion in the Inaugural Pegasus World Cup Invitational, as Arrogate proved that he is a force to be reckoned with in the world of horse racing. The race was imagined by the Stronach Group, and it is sure to be an event that is eagerly anticipated in the years to come.
