Unhealthy Salts: Innovative Smoke Detector Introduced for the Fire Department in City Center

In a bid to counteract fires caused by defective technical devices, the central fire station in Bad Salzungen has installed a new smoke alarm system for its equipment house and vehicles. This innovative system, currently in the testing phase, is designed to equip not only the municipal but also the county-owned vehicles.

The installation of the new system was prompted by a tip from a friendly firefighter colleague. A total of 30 smoke detectors were installed, with 18 detectors in the emergency vehicles. Eight detectors were installed in various rooms of the administration building.

The new system includes a loud siren at the equipment house to signal danger. A heat detector is used to trigger an alarm if the room temperature rises by three degrees Celsius within a minute. This internal alarm for the members of the voluntary fire brigade Bad Salzungen city center aims to detect fires in equipment houses or vehicles more quickly, enabling quick firefighting and preventing or minimising damages.

The software used for this purpose is Alamos and LUPUS. The Sparkassen Versicherung has a good partnership with the Freiwilligen Feuerwehr Bad Salzungen regarding the new smoke detector system. Hannes Knott, a city representative, highlighted the city's good partnership with Sparkassen Versicherung.

Patrick Mohr, the deputy commander, thanks Nino Glashagel, David Schrumpf, Jürgen Ender, and Ronny Schröder for their support in the installation. The colleagues of the city center fire brigade have volunteered over 650 hours for the installation of the new smoke alarm system.

It is not legally required for equipment houses with vehicles to be insured. However, the replacement value of the municipal emergency vehicles is 2.1 million euros, underscoring the importance of such a system. All others receive the alarm via the usual methods, such as radio pagers and mobile phones.

Currently, only ten members of the city center fire brigade are being alerted via this system. The new digital smoke alarm system is set to revolutionise firefighting in Bad Salzungen, ensuring quick response times and minimising damages in the event of a fire.
