Unidentified individuals posing as water utility employees
In two separate incidents, unknown individuals posing as waterworks employees attempted to gain entry into homes in Euskirchen-Wißkirchen and Weilerswist-Groß-Vernich. The police are reminding residents to be vigilant and not let unknown individuals into their homes or apartments.
In the first incident, which occurred on Friday (5th of September) at around 12:30 PM in Von-Ketteler-Straße, Weilerswist-Groß-Vernich, two individuals claimed they needed to inspect the water pipes and were allowed inside an elderly woman's apartment. One of the individuals went with the woman to the bathroom to check a faucet, while the other searched the apartment. After they left, the woman discovered that jewelry had been stolen from the apartment.
The individuals in this incident were described as:
- Male
- Approximately 180 cm tall
- Dark short hair
- Dressed in dark clothing
The second incident took place at around 1:00 PM in Diemstraße, Euskirchen-Wißkirchen. The same day, the same modus operandi was used. The individuals claimed they needed to inspect the water pipes and were allowed inside a multi-family home. One of the individuals went with the elderly woman to the bathroom to check a faucet, while the other searched the apartment. However, the individuals in this incident were not successful in entering the apartment.
The individuals in both incidents were described as:
- Male
- Approximately 180 cm tall
- Dark hair
- South European appearance
- Spoke without an accent
The police are investigating the theft and attempted theft in both incidents. If you suspect someone is trying to deceive you, please contact the police immediately. Witnesses with information about the unknown individuals are asked to contact the Euskirchen police.
