Unimpressive experience with the Pixelsnap Qi2 charging stand for Google Pixel 10

The Pixelsnap Stand is a two-part wireless charging accessory designed specifically for Google Pixel phones. This stand, priced at $70, is a separate component where the charging puck slots in. However, it may not impress as a stand on its own, feeling large and bulky in some places.

The stand uses magnets for magnetic charging and is Qi 2.2-certified. It offers speeds up to 25W on Pixel 10 Pro XL, but only standard Qi2 charging on Pixel 10 Pro and Pixel 10. Despite being less bulky, the Pixelsnap Stand weighs around 12 ounces without the Pixelsnap plug and around 14 ounces in total, making it heavier than the Pixel Stand 2.

One of the standout features of the Pixelsnap Stand is its "screen saver" function. This feature is not limited to wireless charging or Qi2 and can be configured to turn on whenever charging starts, regardless of phone orientation. Unfortunately, unlike the Pixel Stand 2, the Pixelsnap Stand's "screen saver" feature lacks the ability to control charging speed.

The Pixelsnap Stand can work with certain cases, such as Google's official Pixelsnap cases. However, it does not have a feature that triggers special modes on the phone like the Pixel Stand 2's Stand Mode. Moreover, the Pixelsnap Stand does not include cooling fans, unlike the Pixel Stand 2, which could be a potential drawback considering the significant amount of heat the Pixelsnap Stand produces during wireless charging, regardless of the phone being used.

In terms of pricing, the Pixelsnap Stand uses a one-time purchase pricing model, making it more expensive than the Pixelsnap charger alone. It's important to note that the iPhone 15 Pro Max reached a temperature of around 90 degrees after a similar amount of time charging, while the Pixel 10 Pro reached a temperature of around 95 degrees Fahrenheit after 10 minutes of wireless charging.

Android 16's "screen saver" feature functions similarly to Stand Mode but offers more user control. This could be a potential advantage for users seeking more customisation options in their wireless charging experience.

In conclusion, while the Pixelsnap Stand offers a functional wireless charging solution for Google Pixel phones, its capabilities feel underwhelming compared to the Pixel Stand 2. Potential buyers may want to consider the additional features and pricing differences before making a purchase decision.
