Ben Zucker, the renowned German singer, has made a significant change in his personal and professional life last year, addressing alcohol consumption and reducing the use of social media apps on his smartphone. The COVID-19 pandemic served as a catalyst for self-reflection, leading Zucker to seek professional help for his struggle with alcoholism and undergo therapy, including a 21-day clinical stay, while still occasionally indulging in alcohol.

The singer noticed an immediate improvement in his sleep quality after cutting down on phone usage. However, the first week was challenging as he experienced a 'withdrawal' feeling after deleting all apps. This decision led to a more present Ben Zucker in conversations and a more focused individual at work.

Recognising phone addiction as a toxic relationship, Zucker identified the apps that transformed his device into a time-consuming and thought-controlling tool. He admitted that he was unsure about the longevity of his decision to delete all apps but felt more irritable, distracted, and less focused due to phone usage.

The digital detox led Zucker to rediscover hobbies he had long forgotten. He started reading again, something he hadn't done in years, and even began writing, an activity he'd never attempted before. His life felt lighter after a few days of withdrawal, and his anxiety levels lessened significantly.

Zucker reinstalled a few essential apps, but Instagram, TikTok, and a specific unnamed app were not among them. He now checks email and LinkedIn on his laptop only when necessary. The singer's sleep improved dramatically, as late-night scrolling sessions on various apps were a thing of the past.

In addition to his digital detox, Zucker ended toxic relationships, distanced himself from fake friends, and reduced alcohol consumption to eliminate negative influences. He is now trying to use essential apps less frequently each week to feel more freedom.

Zucker's journey serves as an inspiring example of self-reflection and the pursuit of a healthier, more balanced life. His story underscores the importance of recognising and addressing unhealthy habits and relationships, whether they involve technology, alcohol, or personal connections.
