Union proposes mediation in Oettinger's work conflict - Union's proposed resolution for harmony in negotiations

The ongoing wage dispute at Oettinger Brewery, a nationally renowned brewery based in Oettingen, Bavaria, has escalated this week with a multi-day warning strike. The union, NGG, has been pressing for a resolution, offering voluntary mediation to the management, but so far, mediation talks have not been scheduled.

The brewery, which has three other production sites in Mönchengladbach, Braunschweig, and Walldorf, employs a total of 880 workers. The union has accused the management of planning unacceptable cuts, a claim the management has dismissed as lacking realism.

The union secretary, Fouad Laghmouch, stated that they want to quickly resolve the wage dispute and expect immediate mediation talks in the coming days. However, if a resolution is not reached by the end of the week, the union may call for a strike vote on September 8.

In a concerning development, it has been announced that one of the production sites, in Braunschweig, will be closed next year, affecting 130 employees. As of yet, no statement regarding this matter has been made by the Oettinger management.

Despite the challenging circumstances, the employees of Oettinger will resume work with the early shift on Monday, 1st September, as announced by the NGG. The next mediation talks between NGG and Oettinger management are planned for September 11, 2025.

The brewery has been struggling with declining sales and further shrinkage is expected. The management has not made any official comments regarding the ongoing dispute or the future of the company.

As the situation unfolds, the NGG and the Oettinger management will continue their efforts to find a resolution that satisfies both parties. The future of the brewery and its employees hangs in the balance.
