Mauricio Pochettino and Son Heung-min to Reunite on the Pitch
Mauricio Pochettino and Son Heung-min, two individuals who shared a successful stint at Tottenham Hotspur, will meet again on the football field. This reunion comes as the U.S. Men's National Soccer Team (USMNT) prepares to face South Korea at the Sports Illustrated Stadium in New Jersey on Saturday.
Pochettino, who was the coach at Tottenham Hotspur during Son Heung-min's tenure there, has expressed his fondness for the South Korean star. He called Son an "amazing player and person" and considered him one of the most important players during his time at Tottenham.
Son recently completed a move to Los Angeles FC after 10 years in the Premier League, but his connection with Pochettino remains strong. Pochettino attempted to sign Son Heung-min while at Southampton and again when they moved to Tottenham.
The fixture will mark the first time Pochettino and Son Heung-min meet since their time together at Tottenham. The match comes after Son's decision to skip the CONCACAF Gold Cup to recuperate after a couple of testing seasons with AC Milan in Serie A. This decision was met with criticism from some quarters, including Clint Dempsey and Landon Donovan, but Pochettino insists there is no lasting bad blood.
Pulisic, who was also criticised for his decision to skip the Gold Cup, is likely to return for the USMNT's match against South Korea. Despite Pulisic's desire to play in a couple of pre-tournament friendlies, Pochettino opted against fielding him.
Pochettino believes it will be a wonderful opportunity to see Son Heung-min again. He emphasized the importance of moving on and doing the right things, stating that all is well between him and Pulisic.
As for the USMNT, they made the final of the Gold Cup but lost to Mexico in Houston. The team will be looking to bounce back against South Korea, and with the addition of Son Heung-min, they may just have the boost they need to secure a victory.
