Universal Studios has eliminated Jordan Peele's upcoming horror project from its 2026 release schedule.
Jordan Peele, the acclaimed director and writer known for his work in the horror genre, is currently without a confirmed film project following the removal of his upcoming horror film from Universal Pictures' 2026 release schedule.
Peele made his directorial debut with the critically acclaimed "Get Out" in 2017, which earned him the Academy Award for Best Original Screenplay and numerous other nominations, including Best Picture and Best Director. He went on to direct and write "Us" (2019) and "Nope" (2022), and co-wrote the 2021 sequel to 1992's "Candyman", directed by Nia DaCosta.
In "Nope", Peele worked with Daniel Kaluuya, who also starred in "Us". The film received a four-star review from NME, with the review highlighting its unpredictability, patterns, and motifs, and suggesting that comedy and horror are both ways of processing the perverse mysteries of the world. The film was most recently slated for a release around Halloween next year, but has since been removed from Universal's roster.
Peele's upcoming horror film, a follow-up to "Nope", was first meant to premiere around Christmas last year, but was put on pause in 2023 due to the SAG-AFTRA strikes in Hollywood. The film was then slated for a release around Halloween next year, and most recently on October 23, 2026. However, it has now been removed from Universal's release schedule, and appears to be in creative reset with no set release date.
Despite this, Peele is still actively working in the film industry. He produced the films "Monkey Man" and HIM via his Monkeypaw production company, and is currently producing the psychological horror sports film Him, directed by Justin Tipping, scheduled for release on September 19, 2025.
Rumours have circulated that Peele may have parted ways with his management team after they were unable to secure producer rights for the acclaimed horror film "Weapons". However, these rumours have not been confirmed.
As Peele continues to work behind the scenes, fans eagerly await his next directorial project, hoping to once again experience the unpredictable and thought-provoking storytelling that has become synonymous with his name.
