SenseAI Vision, a spinout company from the University of Liverpool, has secured seed funding led by the Foresight Group. This funding will accelerate the development of SenseAI's groundbreaking technology and facilitate its rollout to research and industrial customers in high-value sectors.

SenseAI Vision was founded in April 2024 and has been making waves in the world of electron microscopy (EM), a field widely used in semiconductors, life sciences, and materials research. The company's software, currently being utilised by researchers at King's College London and CNR-IMM, promises to tackle long-standing challenges in EM.

Traditional EM offers magnifications up to 50 million times, but it comes with drawbacks such as long acquisition times, high data volumes, and sample damage caused by prolonged exposure to electron beams. SenseAI Vision's compressive sensing EM software, however, is said to produce high-quality images from vastly reduced datasets. This technology can reportedly cut acquisition times by up to 100x and reduce beam damage, without the need for pre-trained AI models.

The technology's potential has not gone unnoticed. Desmond Cheung, an investment manager at Foresight Group, has expressed his impressions about SenseAI's background in electron microscopy and the traction achieved with world-leading research institutions. The University of Liverpool, Sivananthan Laboratories, Wren Capital, Haatch, LYVA Labs, the Liverpool City Region Seed Fund managed by AXM Venture Capital, have also shown their support for SenseAI Vision.

At the helm of SenseAI Vision is Professor Nigel Browning, the chief scientific officer and head of EM at the University of Liverpool. He is also the principal investigator for the RUEDI project. Professor Browning, who has held senior research positions in the US and authored over 380 publications, brings a wealth of expertise to the table.

In addition to the funding announcement, Baltic Ventures has revealed the cohort for its Accelerator 2025. However, the companies that make up this cohort, including SenseAI Vision, have not been publicly listed or specified.

With the backing of major investors and the support of Baltic Ventures, SenseAI Vision is poised to make significant strides in the realm of electron microscopy. The company's technology holds the promise of revolutionising this field, reducing data volumes, acquisition times, and sample damage, while improving results and reducing consumables use.
