In a surprising turn of events, the Main Customs Office conducted a raid at Gamescom, Europe's largest video game trade fair, on Wednesday. The operation was aimed at investigating potential cases of work without notification, which could have involved individuals receiving unemployment benefits.

The raid, which saw nearly 60 enforcement officers deployed, was carried out to ensure compliance with labour laws. All entrances to Gamescom were secured during the operation.

On the opening day of the event, approximately 150 employees from over 40 security companies were checked. The Main Customs Office reported 12 cases of suspected misuse of social benefits. However, the search results do not provide the names of the seven security companies that were under investigation.

One of the most concerning findings was the employment of a minor as a steward at Gamescom. The details surrounding this case are currently under further investigation.

Gamescom, held in Cologne, Germany, is open to the general public for four days, starting from Thursday. Initially, the event was opened on Wednesday for the trade public.

The Main Customs Office has emphasised its commitment to ensuring fair employment practices at such large-scale events. They will continue to monitor and investigate any suspicious activities to maintain the integrity of the industry.

As the investigation continues, more details are expected to emerge, shedding light on the suspected misuse of social benefits at Gamescom. The public is encouraged to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities to the appropriate authorities.
