Unpredictable rain showers and thunderstorms to hit Latvia this coming Thursday
Latvia Weather Forecast: Heavy Rain and Thunderstorms Expected
According to the Latvian Environment, Geology and Meteorology Centre (Latvijas Vides, ģeoloģijas un meteoroloģijas centrs), the weather in Latvia is expected to be changeable in the coming days.
In Riga, the minimum air temperature at night will be around +15 C, and the maximum during the day will be around +21 C. However, rain, thunderstorms, and occasional heavy rain are expected during the day. The night will remain dry in Riga, but the city can expect short showers in many places during the day.
Elsewhere in Latvia, more precipitation is expected, especially in the central and eastern parts of the country. In these regions, precipitation may reach 20-40 millimetres, with local areas experiencing more. In some places in Vidzeme, Latgale, and Sēlija, precipitation could reach up to 40 millimetres.
Heavy thunderstorms are expected in some places during the day, particularly in some places in Vidzeme, Latgale, and Sēlija. Strong gusts and hail are possible in some places in these regions during the afternoon.
More flooding is expected due to the increased precipitation and rising water levels in rivers. A warning about high water levels in rivers is in effect in eastern Vidzeme, Sēlija, and Latgale until 9 June. Water levels in rivers will rise, and floodplains will be flooded in some sections. Extensive flooding of low-lying areas is expected in already waterlogged areas by the end of the week.
The wind in Riga will be light during the day. In some places in Vidzeme and Latgale, wind speeds may increase, especially during the afternoon. Cloud cover will increase during the night, with clear skies expected to return in the morning.
During the day, the air will warm up to between +18 and +23 C in most of Latvia. In some places in Latgale, the air will warm up to between +24 and +25 C during the day. The minimum air temperature at night will be between +12 and +16 C in most of Latvia. In some places in eastern Vidzeme and northern Latgale, the minimum air temperature at night will be between +9 and +11 C.
Overall, the weather in Latvia is expected to be changeable in the coming days, with heavy rain and thunderstorms expected in many parts of the country. Residents are advised to stay informed and take precautions to protect themselves and their property from potential flooding.
