Unraveling the Mechanisms of Fantasy Champions League: Crucial Distinctions from FPL You Should Be Aware Of
The football season just got even more exciting with the introduction of the Fantasy Champions League (FCL). This new game, sponsored by PlayStation, is a spin-off from the popular Fantasy Premier League and offers a fresh challenge for fans.
In the FCL, you'll manage a 15-player squad, consisting of two goalkeepers, five defenders, five midfielders, and three forwards. You'll start with €100m to spend on your dream team.
Each gameweek, you'll score points based on the performance of your first XI players, following an almost identical scoring system to the Fantasy Premier League. However, there are some unique rules that set the FCL apart.
For instance, captains earn double points, and you have the flexibility to manually make substitutions or change your captain if you're not satisfied with their performance. If your center-forward or skipper has a poor performance on Tuesday night, you can sub them out and/or hand the armband to someone else who is yet to play on Wednesday night.
The number of transfers allowed increases before the quarter-finals, semi-finals, and final, providing more opportunities to fine-tune your squad. There are effectively two wildcard windows for unlimited transfers: after the league phase and before the round of 16. In between the two legs of the knockout phase play-offs, only two free transfers are available.
One unused free transfer per gameweek can be rolled over into the next gameweek, but there are no accumulated unused free transfers across the season. In between the rounds of 16, quarters, and semis, you get three extra free transfers.
It's important to note that only players who actually play in the match will score points. If a player doesn't play at all, they'll be automatically replaced from the bench. Changing the captain or the order of substitutes counts as a manual change, and the deadline for changes is when the first game of the matchday kicks off. Once a change is made, it is permanent, and no automatic substitutions will occur.
The Fantasy Champions League is not just sponsored by PlayStation; it also boasts other official global sponsors like Heineken, Lay's, FedEx, and Mastercard.
