Unsecured Keyless Entry Systems Continue to Pose Risks
In a recent development, the police have successfully recovered a stolen SUV that was taken from a driveway in Kaarst-Vorst on March 26, 2021, around 1:30 AM. The vehicle, a high-end Mercedes SUV, was spotted by officers patrolling the L390. The suspect, wearing a mask and driving the stolen vehicle, was pursued and eventually caught.
Initial investigations revealed that the suspect used electronic devices to intercept the Keyless-Go system signal to steal the vehicle. It was also found that the suspect had an arrest warrant for another theft and was already serving a prison sentence of over 480 days for a previous theft. Electronic devices and pepper spray were found on the suspect.
The suspect did not resist arrest and was taken into custody. The recovered SUV sustained slight damage after rolling into a bridge railing. However, it appears that no one was injured in the incident.
Meanwhile, another high-end Mercedes AMG with the license plate NE-YE9 remains missing. The distinctive red-soled shoes of the suspect could potentially link him to this vehicle theft from the previous day. The suspect's identity is not publicly disclosed, and the vehicle's location or seizure status is currently unknown.
