Unveiled: Cinematic Offerings Following the Holiday Season

A wave of new films is set to arrive in cinemas nationwide this week in Vietnam, with a particular focus on Vietnamese cinema in international markets, especially within horror films that incorporate local cultural elements.

One of the highly anticipated films is Cô Dâu Ma (The Bride), a Vietnam-Thailand co-production distributed globally by Skyline Media. The film, directed by Lee Thongkham, follows a young Vietnamese woman engaged to a wealthy Thai man. During a visit to her rural hometown, she tries on a traditional family wedding gown, unknowingly triggering a curse tied to generations of hidden secrets.

Cô Dâu Ma is a project by Thongkham Films and Silver Moonlight Entertainment. The film will release in Vietnam first, followed by premieres across Asia, and conclude with a launch in Thailand, where the story is set.

Another film premiering on September 5 is Phá Đám: Sinh Nhật Mẹ (Re-Birthday). Directed by Hoàng Duy Anh, this film explores themes of family and emotional connection, based on real stories shared by close friends. It draws partial inspiration from Hạnh Phúc Của Một Tang Gia by Vũ Trọng Phụng. The cast includes Thành Hội, Ái Như, Bé Sam, Hông Ánh, Tín Nguyễn, Trần Kim Hải, and Samuel An.

On September 12, Khế Ước Bán Dâu (Bride of the Covenant), directed by Lê Văn Kiệt, will be released. This film focuses on a young woman who, after being abandoned at a church, is raised by nuns. As she grows older, she discovers a dark secret about her past and embarks on a journey to uncover the truth.

On September 19, Tử Chiến Trên Không, directed by Hàm Trần, will arrive in theatres. Based on a real airplane hijacking in Việt Nam in 1978, this film tells the story of a group of passengers who must band together to survive when their plane is hijacked by a mysterious figure.

Lastly, Đồi Hành Xác: Tà Thuyết Đen Trơ̆ Lại (The Torture Hill: Dark Omen), a psychological horror directed by Lương Đình Dũng, will also premiere on September 26. The film follows a group of friends who visit a haunted hill, where they encounter supernatural forces and must fight to survive.

Another film premiering on September 26 is Blindfolded Hunt by director Hoàng Thơ. This film explores emotional manipulation in romantic relationships.

Lastly, Khế Ước Bán Dâu (Bride of the Covenant) and Đồi Hành Xác: Tà Thuyết Đen Trơ̆ Lại (The Torture Hill: Dark Omen) will also premiere on September 26.

These new films offer a diverse range of genres and themes, promising an exciting cinematic experience for audiences in Vietnam and beyond.
