Baden-Württemberg Tax Administration Achieves Record-Breaking Year in 2024
The Baden-Württemberg Tax Administration has released its Balance Sheet for the year 2024, providing a comprehensive overview of the organisation's financial performance and operational achievements. The document is available for download as a PDF, accessible via a link on the official website.
In 2024, the tax administration processed a record-breaking 4.7 million income tax returns, marking a significant increase from the previous year. The average processing time for these returns decreased to 50 days, a notable improvement from the 63 days in 2023. This efficiency is attributed to the outstanding work of the tax office employees, as praised by Bernd Kraft, the Chief Financial Officer.
The Balance Sheet also reveals that over 96 billion euros were collected in taxes in 2024, with the largest share being income tax. The Extern: Special Unit for Tax Oversight (SUTO) achieved a record result of 38.8 million euros in 2024, further contributing to the tax revenue. Tax investigators also added an additional 366 million euros to the total.
The automation rate for income tax declarations increased to almost 16 percent in 2024, reflecting the tax administration's commitment to digitalisation and streamlining processes. In addition to their regular tasks, tax office employees were also involved in the Extern: 'Tax Makes School' project, demonstrating their dedication to the wider community.
State Secretary for Finance, Gisela Splett, commended the tax administration for its role as a well-functioning part of the public administration. The faster processing times and consistent approach to combating tax evasion are testament to the organisation's effectiveness, she said.
