Upcoming Refreshed Tesla Model S may potentially launch in Europe, according to revealed documents

The electric vehicle giant, Tesla, has secured European type approval for the refreshed 2026 model-year versions of its luxury sedan, the Model S, and SUV, the Model X. This approval, granted by the relevant European vehicle type approval authorities, opens the door for the reintroduction of these iconic vehicles in Europe.

The updates to the Model S include a slight 3 kg weight reduction, revisions to statutory plates, and changes to suspension components, as mentioned in the filings. The Model S Plaid, in particular, now boasts a top speed of 240 km/h and a WLTP-rated range of 611 km (380 miles) on 21-inch wheels. The Model S Long Range, on the other hand, offers a WLTP-rated range of 744 km (462 miles) on 19-inch wheels.

A front fascia camera has been added to the updated Model S, and VIN breakdowns have been adjusted to reflect the changes. The regulatory documents were filed on July 18.

Interestingly, the updates do not indicate a phase-out of Tesla's luxury sedan and SUV lineup in Europe. Instead, it seems that Tesla is streamlining its offerings, with one Plaid variant having been deleted from the European filings.

In the United States, the refreshed Model S and X were launched in June, and Tesla raised prices by $10,000 across all Model S/X variants earlier this month. The new orders in the U.S. now include the Luxe Package, which bundles premium perks like free Full Self-Driving (FSD) and Supercharging.

However, the Model X shows no signs of updates in Europe as of yet. This could be due to the challenges Tesla faced earlier this year when it halted Model S and X orders in China, largely due to escalating tariffs from the U.S.-China trade war.

As the electric vehicle market continues to evolve, Tesla's updates to the Model S and Model X demonstrate the company's commitment to innovation and improvement. With these refreshed models now approved for Europe, it remains to be seen how they will be received by consumers in the continent.
