Volkswagen Crafter: A Versatile Workhorse with Enhanced Features

The Volkswagen Crafter, a versatile vehicle known for its robustness and reliability, has received a series of updates that aim to enhance its performance and comfort.

The Crafter is now available in a wide range of body types, including panel van, drop side, cab chassis, and heavy-duty solutions, catering to various needs. For those opting for automatic models, the gear selector has been conveniently moved to the steering column.

Transmission choices include a 6-speed manual and an 8-speed automatic specifically designed for RWD models. The Crafter's 4-cylinder turbocharged diesel engines deliver 103kW, 120kW, or 130kW, offering a range of power options to suit different driving styles.

The Crafter's charging system has been upgraded, and it now offers an inductive wireless charging option for smartphones. Inside, the interior updates aim to provide a more intuitive driving experience, with connectivity upgraded to include USB-C ports. The vehicle also features fully digital instrumentation and displays.

In the realm of camping, the upgraded Grand California camper, scheduled to go on show at the Caravan Salon in Dusseldorf from August 27-September 7, offers several new features. A mobile dining table that can be locked to the exterior of the kitchen unit for outdoor dining is one such addition. The camper also features an optional custom-fit thermal mat and revised blackout windows for the cab, as well as new luggage nets for both 600 (transverse bed) and 680 (longitudinal bed) models.

The new interior features "Atami Bamboo" decor, new finishes for the tabletop and work surfaces in the Grand California camper. An electronically operated parking brake has also been included in the Crafter's updates.

However, an upgraded version of the Crafter-based Grand California camper is yet to be confirmed for New Zealand. The announced new camper based on the VW Crafter in Europe is published or offered by Aquila Adventure, a known outfitter associated with the VW Crafter camper. Aquila Adventure is renowned for creating high-performance, fully autonomous 4x4 camper vehicles with innovative designs and smart solutions for camping and exploration.

Pricing for the Volkswagen Crafter begins at $91,000 including GST, plus on-road costs, and includes 3 scheduled services. The revised Volkswagen Crafter, launched in Europe mid-2024, continues to offer front-wheel, rear-wheel, and 4Motion all-wheel drive options.

The Crafter, launched in New Zealand, features a new interior design with a 10-inch touch screen infotainment system. With these updates, the Volkswagen Crafter remains a reliable choice for both work and leisure.
