Upgraded Skoda Octavia vRS boasts VW Golf GTI's power, priced from £38,670
The automotive world has a new contender, as Skoda unveils its latest offering – the new Octavia vRS. This model, akin to the VW Golf GTI, is set to redefine performance for the popular Octavia range.
Powering the new Octavia vRS is a 2.0-litre petrol engine, capable of delivering a punchy 262bhp. Transmission duties are handled by a seven-speed DSG 'box, complemented by an electrohydraulic differential lock for enhanced control and acceleration.
The new Octavia vRS is available as both a Hatchback and Estate, catering to various lifestyle needs. Pricing starts at approximately €38,590 for the Hatchback and €43,350 for the Estate, with the RS model (2.0L TSI engine, 265 PS) setting you back around €43,350 for the Hatch and €41,890 to €42,490 for the Estate versions.
For those preferring diesel power, Skoda has delivered a new 148bhp Sportline model to fill the gap where a vRS diesel would normally be available.
The new Octavia vRS is not just about power; it's about refinement too. The interior boasts a three-spoke multifunction steering wheel, Sports Seats, contrast red stitching, and even electric massage. Exterior enhancements include restyled bumpers, a vRS logo on the grille, black grille surround, rear diffuser and tailpipes in black, 19′′ alloys, and on the Estate, black roof rails.
The new Octavia vRS is the quickest version of the Octavia yet, accelerating from 0-62mph in a swift 6.4 seconds. It was originally scheduled to debut at the Geneva Motor Show in March, but due to its cancellation, details were released after the event.
In a move to broaden its appeal, the new Octavia vRS will be joined by Petrol and Diesel models, ensuring there's an option for every driver. The model will also be available at the Goodwood Festival of Speed in 2013/2014.
For those in the UK, the new Octavia vRS starts at £38,670 for the Hatch, making it an attractive proposition for performance enthusiasts. The diesel variant will cost from £22,990 as a hatch and £23,790 as an estate, with sales starting in August.
The powertrains for the new Skoda Octavia vRS Petrol and Diesel models are borrowed from the new VW Golf, ensuring a proven and reliable performance. The chassis is also lowered by 15mm for improved handling and agility.
As the automotive landscape continues to evolve, the new Skoda Octavia vRS stands as a testament to Skoda's commitment to delivering high-performance vehicles that are accessible and exciting for drivers everywhere.
