On September 5, 2025, a significant traffic accident occurred on the B196 near Bergen garden plot "Am Haselgund." The incident, which involved three vehicles traveling from Bergen towards Stralsund, led to a closure of the B196 for an hour.

The series of events began when a 44-year-old woman from Rügen was driving a Skoda and attempted to turn left. Unfortunately, a 60-year-old woman from Cottbus, driving a Ford, did not stop and collided with the VW, pushing it against the stationary Skoda. The Ford driver and her 28-year-old passenger, both from Cottbus, were injured in the accident.

The VW driver and her 4-year-old passenger were taken to Stralsund hospital for treatment. The Skoda driver's 52-year-old passenger from Rügen was also taken to Bergen hospital. Two vehicles, the VW and the Skoda, were so badly damaged they had to be towed away.

An investigation was initiated against the Ford driver for reckless bodily harm. At the time of the accident, the Police Commander (Polizeiführer) at the Police Headquarters Neubrandenburg was Erik Günther. He is referenced as Polizeihauptkommissar and Polizeiführer vom Dienst in September 2025 documents from the Polizeipräsidium Neubrandenburg.
