Vehicle Hurled onto A3 Highway - Regrettable Incident Causes Three Fatalities
A serious traffic accident took place on the A3 between Offenbach and Frankfurt-Süd, resulting in tragic losses and extensive disruptions on the motorway.
According to reports, a 25-year-old driver overtook a 38-year-old driver on the far left lane near the Frankfurt-Süd exit. The overtaken car, unable to react in time, collided with two vehicles travelling towards Cologne.
As a result of the collision, three people lost their lives: a young woman, a young man, and the 38-year-old driver. Two other individuals were lightly injured in the accident. Tragically, in one of the vehicles travelling towards Cologne, a 20-year-old man and a 21-year-old woman died at the scene.
The impact of the collision caused the overtaken car to be thrown into the air and onto the opposite lane, causing further accidents involving a total of nine vehicles. Two occupants of a car travelling towards Cologne were lightly injured and taken to the hospital.
The 38-year-old driver of the other car later died in the hospital from his injuries. Remarkably, the 25-year-old driver who caused the accident was not injured.
In response to the incident, the motorway had to be completely closed in both directions until the early morning to allow for investigations and clearance of the accident site. The accident site had to be closed again in the morning for further investigations.
A police helicopter was deployed for aerial surveillance, and an expert, known as a "Gutachter" or "Sachverständiger" (expert or surveyor), was appointed to investigate the incident. This expert often specializes as a Kfz-Gutachter (motor vehicle expert) when it concerns traffic accidents. They perform detailed assessments, damage evaluations, and accident reconstructions to provide authoritative reports.
Some vehicles were damaged by flying debris, causing the initial count of eight vehicles to be inaccurate. The police have released the 25-year-old driver after initial measures at the police station.
This unfortunate incident serves as a stark reminder of the importance of safe and responsible driving on our roads. Our thoughts are with the families and friends of those who lost their lives in this tragic accident.
