Vehicle navigates streets of France, passing by a bar, leaving a deceased individual behind
In the 50,000-strong city of Évreux, located in Normandy, a nighttime argument in a bar tragically escalated, leading to a car being driven into a crowd outside the establishment.
According to the Mayor of Évreux, Guy Lefrand, the bar had not complied with the rule of closing at one in the morning, a common occurrence as he stated. The incident occurred outside the wine bar, around four in the morning, when approximately 100 intoxicated people were standing outside.
The argument at the wine bar appears to have involved a person who, later in the night, retrieved a car and drove it into the crowd multiple times. The scene was described as one of great panic when emergency services arrived.
As a result of the incident, one man died, and five others were injured. The driver of the car, a guest involved in a prior dispute at a nearby bar, deliberately drove the car in reverse at high speed into the crowd, according to reports from the French newspaper "Le Parisien" and the prefecture.
Two occupants of the car, including the driver, and another person were arrested. The arrested individuals are being investigated for manslaughter and attempted manslaughter. The owner of the wine bar cleared the establishment following the argument.
The Mayor of Évreux, Guy Lefrand, spoke to BFMTV channel about the incident, expressing his condolences and urging the public to respect the closing rules of establishments for the safety of all. The investigation is ongoing.
