Vehicle Owner Expresses Mistrust: Rivian Freezes and Emits Smoke

===================================================================================

In a recent turn of events, a Rivian R1T owner shared their experience on Reddit, expressing doubts about the truck's reliability and Rivian's response in critical situations. The incident, which occurred in the United States, has highlighted potential challenges and frustrations faced by owners of new, cutting-edge vehicles like the Rivian R1T.

The owner's post, titled "Bricked Screens, Greasy Fingerprints - A Rivian Driver's Frustrating Service Journey", detailed a sudden breakdown that left them questioning the reliability of the vehicle. The R1T, a nine-month old electric pickup, experienced a seizure while the owner was cruising through their neighbourhood.

The vehicle suddenly shifted into neutral, and all warning lights were illuminated on the instrument cluster. A terrible smelling smoke began to enter the cabin from under the center console, forcing the owner to stay inside the pickup as smoke filled the cabin because the Rivian would roll backward if they lifted their foot off the brake pedal.

The R1T's seizure caused the wheels to skid, and the entire EV to shudder, adding to the owner's alarm. To make matters worse, the Rivian representative gave the owner a five-minute lecture for not calling Rivian directly instead of using roadside insurance.

Despite the vehicle being at the Rivian service center, no updates have been provided about the issue. The owner's post did not provide any updates about the resolution of the issue with the R1T either. Furthermore, it appears the R1T suffered a serious mechanical or electrical malfunction, based on the owner's account of the incident, but the Rivian R1T has not yet been inspected by a Rivian service center in the United States because no official examination has taken place, and the cause of the alleged catastrophic defect is currently only suspected but not confirmed.

This incident raises concerns about Rivian's customer service and support in handling unexpected issues with their vehicles. The owner's experience with the R1T's breakdown and subsequent towing process has left them questioning the reliability of the vehicle, adding to the concerns about the Rivian R1T's overall performance and Rivian's service response in such situations.
