Venetian-themed extravaganza constructed on a tight schedule of fortnight, incorporating gondolas, arches, and tumbling chandeliers, overseen by the design team for 'Wednesday' production.
In the captivating world of "Wednesday," Season 2, Part 2, now streaming on Netflix, the series unfolds a series of intriguing events, none more so than the grand fundraising gala held at Nevermore Academy.
At the helm of this opulent affair is the new principal of Nevermore Academy, Barry Dort, played by the talented Steve Buscemi. Barry Dort's motives, however, are far from ordinary. As the mastermind of the Morning Song cult, he aims to acquire the fortune of Grandmama Frump (Joanna Lumley), a formidable figure whose donation he is eager to secure.
Production designer Mark Scruton was tasked with creating the look for this grand event, drawing inspiration from the opera world. The gala set, complete with a Grand Canal and large Venetian-style arches, is a testament to Scruton's vision. His team even built a floating gondola for the occasion.
The initial plan was for Dort's death scene to occur outside, but it was changed to an indoor scene in the ballroom. A new indoor chandelier was quickly built to accommodate this change. The chandelier crash scene, filmed in one take, resulted in a successful execution that adds a dramatic twist to the storyline.
The gala is not just a spectacle; it's a strategic move by Principal Dort to impress Grandmama Frump and secure her donation. However, his plans take a dark turn when he takes Bianca hostage, leading to a series of events that ultimately result in his demise. Dort meets his end indoors in the ballroom, not outside as initially planned.
Directed by the renowned Tim Burton, "Wednesday" Season 2 is divided into Part 1 and Part 2, each consisting of 4 episodes. Part 2 was released on September 3, 2025, following the successful release of Part 1 on August 6, 2025.
