Venice Film Festival Highlights Fashion King Giorgio Armani's Red Carpet Presence

Giorgio Armani, Fashion Visionary and Cinematic Icon, Passes Away at 91

Giorgio Armani, the Italian fashion designer who revolutionized the industry and left an indelible mark on the world of cinema, passed away at the age of 91.

Armani, who was the first designer to recognize the potential of cinema to promote his fashions, had been the important sponsor of the Venice International Film Festival for eight consecutive years. His work was described as having "timeless elegance" and being "quietly detached from the fads and trivia of the moment."

Armani's first love and a passion that began in childhood was cinema. His designs graced the silver screen in numerous films, including Brian De Palma's "The Untouchables" of 1987 and Martin Scorsese's "Goodfellas" of 1990. Armani's designs were also featured in television hits such as Don Johnson's wardrobe in the 1980s TV series "Miami Vice" and Leonardo DiCaprio's suits in Scorsese's "The Wolf of Wall Street" from 2013.

Armani's collaboration with the film industry began with the 1980 film "American Gigolo," for which he designed the wardrobe for Richard Gere's character. The film catapulted both actor and designer to success.

Festival organizers referred to Armani as an "Italian genius of fashion and style." Many films whose stars were dressed by Armani, both onscreen and off, premiered at the Venice International Film Festival.

Three days before Armani's death, the Armani Group held a star-studded event in Venice to celebrate 50 years of the company. Cate Blanchett, the face of Giorgio Armani Beauty and a frequent attendee of the Venice International Film Festival, wore an Armani Prive black gown with a dangerously low decolletage and chunky black jewels at the opening ceremony last week.

Martin Scorsese, who had a decades-long friendship with Armani, wrote a tribute to the designer in 2015, praising his focus on comfort in everyday life. Cate Blanchett also stated that Armani leaves a void that is impossible to fill in various fields such as fashion, art, cinema, theater, architecture, and design, as well as in the hearts of millions of people whose lives he influenced.

In a tribute to Armani, the Venice International Film Festival introduced "Armani/Archivio", a digital archive of some of Armani's best looks that will be made accessible to the public. The event marks the eighth year that Armani Beauty has been the main sponsor of the Venice International Film Festival.

Armani's legacy will continue to inspire generations of fashion designers and cinema enthusiasts alike. His contribution to both industries will never be forgotten.
