The Eutin Red Cross has expanded its fleet with the addition of a new multi-purpose vehicle, equipped with flashing lights, sirens, and a navigation system. The VW bus, purchased for 34,000 euros, was made possible by a generous donation from the Kay-and-Dörte-Cornils Foundation.
Nico Menath, the local association chairman and duty leader, expressed his joy about the news. He stated that the VW bus would be integrated into local emergency response and could be deployed for various tasks such as blood drives, medical services, and catering support.
The Eutin Red Cross fleet now consists of three vehicles, including the newly acquired VW bus. The multi-purpose vehicle will also be used for active duty, the youth group, and can even be utilized by the district association's drone group.
The foundation, which had initially wrapped up its activities for 2024, made an exception to support the Eutin DRK local association with the donation for the purchase of a multipurpose vehicle. Interestingly, the donors were on vacation in Tenerife when the request for funding was received.
Kay Cornils, a member of the foundation, found some extra money to make the donation. He commented that the donation was used to acquire a multi-purpose vehicle for the Eutin Red Cross, which would prove to be a cost-effective solution, with a price of 34,000 euros, compared to over 60,000 euros for a new vehicle.
The Eutin DRK local association, with approximately 380 members, has around 60 volunteers active in the duty service and around 20 volunteers in the clothing department. The new VW bus, received just in time for Christmas, is set to play a significant role in their future operations.
The "Fritz-Lampe-Foundation" is the name of the foundation supported by the Eutin DRK local association with the donation for the purchase of the multi-purpose vehicle. The acquisition of this vehicle marks a milestone for the Eutin Red Cross, enabling them to assist the fire department when needed and contribute more effectively to local emergencies.
