Veteran author Thomas Pynchon unveils his latest work, titled "Shadow Ticket", delving into the vibrant atmosphere of the Swing Era.
In the world of literature, the highly anticipated release of a new Thomas Pynchon novel is always a significant event. The American author, often considered one of the leading figures of postmodernism, is set to publish his tenth novel, "Shadow Ticket."
The novel is set in Milwaukee in 1932 and follows Hicks McTaggart, a dancer in the era of the big band. McTaggart, however, is no ordinary dancer. He is a former strikebreaker turned private investigator, who finds himself entangled in a web of intrigue that would make even the most seasoned spy blush.
Hicks McTaggart's routine case to find a runaway heiress leads him on a wild journey to Hungary, where he encounters Nazis, Soviet agents, British spies, swing musicians, paranormal practitioners, and outlaw motorcyclists. The novel deals with noir, similar to Pynchon's previous works Against the Day and Inherent Vice.
Pynchon, now 87 years old, has been known to practice an unusual writing routine. He barricades himself in his home, sleeping during the day, and writing at night. After a 12-year silence, this new novel announcement has sparked excitement among readers and critics alike.
"Shadow Ticket" is being published by Penguin Random House and is scheduled for release on October 7. For fans of Pynchon and noir fiction, this is bound to be a must-read.
