Victory prospects for the Left party in the upcoming constituency elections
In the upcoming election campaign, the Left party in the Biberach constituency is targeting the skilled trades and the middle class, with Fidelis Bittner and local candidate Jasmin Weber leading the charge.
Fidelis Bittner, a carpentry apprentice under the Biberach model, has expressed his alignment with the Left party on the issue of climate justice, having been an active member of the "Fridays for Future" movement. However, he joined the party not due to climate concerns but because of his commitment to equal opportunities.
Meanwhile, Jasmin Weber, who recently joined the Left's local branch after the party's surge in the federal election, is focusing her campaign on improving public transportation, particularly in rural areas. Weber, who is currently unemployed and was previously an insurance saleswoman, also wants to ensure the party's focus extends beyond the city of Biberach to encompass the entire district.
Bittner acknowledges that persuading voters in the traditionally conservative Biberach district will be a challenge, but he is undeterred. He feels more aligned with the Left party on climate justice issues than with the Greens.
The Left party nationally is polling at 10 to 13 percent, but in Baden-Württemberg, they stand at about 7 percent. Despite this, a first-ever entry into the state parliament next year is possible for the Left in Baden-Württemberg. Weber also wants to campaign for a rent cap proposed by the federal party.
Sahra Wagenknecht's departure from the Left party has led to a repositioning of the party, and the Biberach constituency aims to build on their national successes. The identity of the substitute candidate for Jasmin Weber remains undisclosed, with no information available about where he is currently undergoing vocational training.
The Left party in Biberach is gearing up for a challenging but promising campaign, with a focus on representing the interests of the skilled trades, the middle class, and the rural population, all while advocating for climate justice and equal opportunities.
