Video documenting the instance when a burning garage in Fort Worth collapses atop a firefighter, leaving him ensnared within
In the historic Southside of Fort Worth, a two-alarm house fire occurred on Wednesday, leaving firefighter Caleb Halvorson injured and hospitalized. The fire was spotted by crews who were on their way to the station before 11 a.m.
As the flames engulfed a house, a garage collapsed, trapping Halvorson underneath. Fellow firefighters pulled him from the burning debris in less than two minutes. However, Halvorson suffered severe injuries, including second and third-degree burns to his back, legs, hands, and face. He also has a severely dislocated knee, a possible shoulder tear, and other musculoskeletal injuries.
Lt. Troy Gallagher was also injured while rescuing Halvorson. Both were airlifted to Parkland Hospital in Dallas and are currently in stable condition in the burn unit.
Neighbours captured the garage collapse on video and noticed people going in and out of the house owned by the fire victim for the past two months. Despite efforts to gather information, the search results do not contain details about the owner of the house or the owner's current residence.
The fire was large enough to be felt from the street, and firefighters were pulling up to the scene as neighbours were coming outside. The exact location of the fire department was not specified.
Halvorson and his wife have been preparing to welcome their newborn baby home, who has been in the NICU since June. The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
Our thoughts are with Halvorson and Gallagher, along with their families, during this difficult time. Their bravery and dedication to their duty are truly commendable.
