Vienna, Austria, has been chosen as the host city for the Eurovision Song Contest 2026, marking the first time a European capital has hosted the festival since 2021. This announcement comes as the city gears up to celebrate the contest's 70th anniversary.

The European Broadcasting Union (EBU) and the Austrian public broadcaster (ORF) have designated Vienna as the host of this prestigious event. Vienna, renowned as the cradle of classical music and the Imperial Jewel of Europe, offers ideal conditions for the contest, boasting more than 80,000 hotel beds, excellent air and rail connections, and proven infrastructure for large events.

Vienna's Tourism Director, Norbert Kettner, expressed his excitement, stating that Vienna and the Eurovision Song Contest are a perfect combination. He emphasized the city's massive accommodation capacities, excellent infrastructure, and experience in organizing international events. Vienna's Mayor, Michael Ludwig, also expressed enthusiasm, welcoming the world to the Austrian capital.

The contest will take place on May 12, 14, and 16, 2026, under the theme "United by Music". The winning performance at the 69th edition of the contest, held in Basel, Switzerland, was choreographed by Borja Rueda. Sergio Jaén, recently named director of Benidorm Fest 2026, was the artistic director for the winning performance. The 24-year-old countertenor JJ emerged victorious with the song "Wasted Love".

Spain, one of the participating countries, has opened the registration period to select its representative for Eurovision 2026. Artists, authors, and composers can submit their proposals via the official Eurovision website until September 24. In an effort to ensure the participation of prominent artists, the Spanish preselection process will extend direct invitations to renowned singers and songwriters currently prominent in the music scene.

This will be the third time Austria hosts the Eurovision Song Contest. The first time was in 1967, and the second time was in 2015. As the city prepares to welcome the contest, it is poised to deliver an unforgettable musical celebration in the heart of Europe.
