Vikings overpower Bears 27-24 late in the fourth quarter, securing a victory
Minnesota Vikings Secure Comeback Win Against Chicago Bears
In a thrilling game on Sunday, the Minnesota Vikings emerged victorious over the Chicago Bears with a final score of 27-24. The decisive moments came in the fourth quarter, where quarterback J.J. McCarthy showcased his skills, throwing a 27-yard touchdown pass to Aaron Jones and another touchdown to Justin Jefferson.
McCarthy, who missed his rookie season due to a knee injury, was counted on heavily by the Vikings' new coach, Kevin O'Connell. He completed 13 of 20 passes for 143 yards in the game, demonstrating his readiness to lead the team.
The Bears' quarterback, Caleb Williams, also made his mark in his first NFL career game. In addition to completing 21 of 35 passes for 210 yards and a score, he also ran for his first career rushing touchdown from the 9-yard line in the first quarter and scored another touchdown on the ground in the fourth.
The first half of the game saw a defensive battle, with the Bears taking a 17-6 lead thanks to a 74-yard interception return touchdown by Nahshon Wright. However, the Vikings responded in the third quarter, with McCarthy connecting with Jefferson for a 13-yard touchdown, albeit the 2-point conversion pass falling short.
The Bears managed to score again, but the Vikings held on to secure the win. Justin Jefferson and Aaron Jones each had 44 yards receiving in the game.
The Vikings will host Atlanta next Sunday, while the Bears will visit defending NFC North champion Detroit. Notably, the Bears were missing CB Jaylon Johnson (groin), CB Kyler Gordon (hamstring), and LB T.J. Edwards (hamstring) due to injuries, and the Vikings were without safety Harrison Smith due to illness.
Offensive tackle Christian Darrisaw, who tore his ACL last season, was inactive for the Vikings. Will Reichard kicked two field goals for the Bears, including a 59-yarder near the end of the first half, which matched a Soldier Field record.
