Vodafone constructs in Schwerin: Initial limitations followed by improved mobile coverage

In the heart of Schwerin, a vibrant city in northern Germany, Vodafone is set to embark on a significant project from September 8 to September 19, 2025. The project aims to future-proof the local mobile station and increase broadband capacities in the region.

As one of the leading communications companies in Germany, Vodafone is committed to connecting millions of people and various entities, and this project is no exception. The project involves the modernization of the local mobile station, including the installation of additional broadband antennas.

Vodafone, the largest national subsidiary of the Vodafone Group, one of the world's largest telecommunications companies, is known for its extensive network coverage. In Germany, Vodafone's 5G network reaches over 90% of the population, and its machine network (Narrowband IoT) covers more than 97% of the territory for industry and business.

The project in Schwerin's Kerbsförden district is part of Vodafone's network expansion in the area. Mobile data traffic in the Schwerin district is growing rapidly at an annual rate of over 30%, necessitating the need for increased network capacities.

During the construction phase, surrounding stations will route mobile traffic as much as possible to ensure minimal disruption. However, some customers may experience temporary restrictions, ranging from a weaker network to no reception at all during the shutdown.

Emergency calls to 112 are unaffected during the construction. Rest assured, the location of the caller will still be automatically transmitted to the emergency control center in case of a mobile emergency call.

Vodafone is not only focused on connectivity but also on sustainability. The company is committed to operating sustainably and protecting the environment, aiming to be carbon-neutral by 2025 and emissions-free by 2040. In fact, 100% of Vodafone Germany's electricity needs are already covered by renewable energies.

For more details about the construction project, a document named "Regional_Shutdown_Schwerin.pdf" (129 kB) is available.

As the project progresses, Schwerin residents can look forward to improved mobile network services, further cementing Vodafone's position as a key player in Germany's telecommunications landscape.
