Vodafone performs frequency switchover for Cable TV services in Meschede and nearby regions on September 8th.
Vodafone, one of Germany's leading communications conglomerates, has announced a significant upgrade to its cable TV network, scheduled for September 8, 2025. The upgrade aims to improve the service quality and simplify the search for TV programs.
The technical upgrade will impact regions such as Frankfurt, Siegen, Freiburg, Landshut, and surrounding areas, with prior changes already made in Böblingen, Köln, Bonn, Bielefeld, and Wuppertal. The affected locations also include Bad Berleburg, Bad Laasphe, Bestwig, Brilon, Eslohe, Hallenberg, Lippstadt, Medebach, Meschede, Olsberg, Rüthen, Schmallenberg, Warstein, and Winterberg.
The company operates two large transmission centers for the distribution of the TV signal, located in Frankfurt-Rödelheim and in Kerpen near Cologne. Vodafone will use the modern video compression method H.264 (MPEG-4 AVC) for the transmission of SD channels in the future.
To facilitate the upgrade, Vodafone is introducing the "NorDig-LCN" standard throughout its cable network. This standard is expected to simplify the search for TV programs in the future.
Older receiving devices may require a manual channel search after the upgrade. However, modern receiving devices will find the channels automatically. Vodafone recommends that its customers do not disconnect their receiving devices and the cable router from the power grid during the upgrade time and check in the morning after the upgrade if all channels are still receivable.
Vodafone has informed its customers about the upgrade through mail, email, and notices on doors. Customers can find more information and assistance with the frequency change on a service page (Frequency Reallocation | Help, Instructions, and Tips) on the web. In case of any issues after the upgrade, a service page with information and assistance is available online.
It's worth noting that Vodafone Germany generates an annual turnover of approximately 13 billion euros with around 15,000 employees. The company provides internet, mobile, fixed-line, and TV services all in one. Vodafone is driving infrastructure expansion in Germany and reaches two-thirds of all German households with gigabit speed in its nationwide cable-fiber network.
Moreover, Vodafone's machine network (Narrowband IoT) covers more than 97% of German territory for industry and business. The company is optimizing the cable network at the regional technical site for cable TV in Meschede as part of this upgrade.
The new "NorDig" standard is expected to bring a more streamlined and efficient TV viewing experience for Vodafone customers. The company encourages its customers to stay updated and prepared for the upcoming upgrade.
