Volkswagen Anticipates Capturing a 20% Share of Electrified Small Car Segment in Europe
Volkswagen (VW) has announced its ambitious plans to capture a significant share of the growing market for full-electric compact cars in Europe. At the IAA Mobility show in Munich, the German automaker revealed four new electric compact cars from three of its brands - Volkswagen, Cupra, SEAT, and Skoda - which are expected to launch in 2023 and 2026.
The new vehicle family, produced in Spain for cost reasons, is positioned for growth in a market with immense potential. Volkswagen aims to achieve a leading position in the entry-level segment in Europe with these new electric compact cars. The target market remains focused on Europe, where the market for full-electric compact cars is expected to be four times larger by 2030.
The first vehicle to launch, in 2023, will be the Cupra Raval. This will be followed by the ID. Polo, with starting prices just under 25,000 euros, and the VW ID. Cross. The SUV variants, the VW ID. Cross and Skoda Epiq, are scheduled for release in 2026.
Volkswagen CEO Oliver Blume emphasized that these new models are expected to be profitable. The automaker's goal with these new models is to sell a substantial number of cars annually, with the ambition to sell several hundred thousand cars from this new model range each year. Volkswagen aims to capitalize on this growth in the market and capture a 20% market share in electric compact cars in Europe.
These new electric compact cars from Volkswagen are not just a step towards a more sustainable future; they are also an attack on one of the most volume-rich segments in electric mobility. With these new models, Volkswagen is showcasing its commitment to being a leading player in the electric vehicle market and its dedication to providing affordable, efficient, and high-quality electric vehicles to its customers.
