Waning excitement over polar bear Knut remains minimal
In the heart of Berlin, the Berlin Natural History Museum continues to hold a special place for a beloved polar bear named Knut. Born in the city in 2006, Knut's life and death touched millions, making him an "icon of cuteness" during his lifetime.
Knut, who became famous for his playful antics and adorable appearance, resided at the museum. His popularity soared, with more than eleven million visitors watching him grow up over the years. People from all over the world came to see the little polar bear, leaving croissants for him as a token of affection.
Knut's life was far from ordinary. After his mother rejected him, he was raised by a zookeeper with a bottle. The zookeeper who nurtured Knut during his formative years was Thomas Dörflein. Knut's story captivated the hearts of many, and his bond with Dörflein was a testament to their unique relationship.
Sadly, Knut passed away in 2011 due to the effects of encephalitis. His death was a significant loss, felt deeply by the millions who had come to love him. However, Knut's spirit lives on, as he continues to receive a lot of admiration in the display case at the Natural History Museum.
The museum director, Johannes Vogel, made a statement about Knut to RBB InfoRadio. He noted that no one got as close to Knut during his lifetime as they do today, and that Knut continues to be a popular attraction at the museum. However, with a laugh, Vogel also mentioned that the popularity of Knut has decreased over the years.
Despite this, Knut's legacy remains strong. His favorite food, croissants, are still left for him at the museum, a symbol of the affection people continue to hold for him. Knut, the polar bear, may no longer be alive, but his spirit continues to touch the hearts of visitors at the Berlin Natural History Museum.
