In the heart of Hamm, a water main break on Werler Straße has caused a ripple of disruptions, affecting traffic, public transportation, and some households. The incident occurred around 6:30 AM on August 20th.

The street between Alleestraße and Lilienstraße is currently closed, leading to a detour for both car and bus traffic. Cars are being rerouted via Ahornallee, Ludwig-Erhard-Straße, and Caldenhofer Weg, while buses are being diverted through Lilienstraße, Ludwig-Erhard-Straße, and Ahornallee. It's important to note that these detours apply to both directions of Werler Straße.

Lines 2, 14, and R41 have been affected by the bus detours, causing some inconvenience for commuters. Some households in the area have experienced slightly cloudy drinking water due to the incident, but health authorities assure that the cloudiness is harmless.

Unfortunately, some households have also been left without power due to flooded basements resulting from the water main break. City utilities are on site, working diligently to restore power as soon as it is safe to do so. Meanwhile, these basements are being pumped out to minimise further damage.

The good news is that the city utilities are also manufacturing custom replacement parts for the damaged pipe, with the expected reopening of Werler Straße by the end of next week. The company likely to provide the necessary spare parts is aquatherm GmbH, a world market leader in polypropylene plastic piping systems for building technology and facility construction.

Firefighters and police are also on site, ensuring the safety of the public and managing the traffic diversions effectively. It's worth mentioning that the detours for car and bus traffic are separate routes to maintain smooth flow.

Residents are advised to plan their journeys accordingly and check the latest updates on public transportation services. The city thanks everyone for their understanding and patience during this inconvenience.
