Waterscience Direct-to-Consumer brand secured INR 1.4 crores in funding, with the company's founder stating their objective: ensuring the safety of water.

WaterScience, a pioneering homegrown brand in non-drinking water filtration, has secured Rs 1.4 crore in funding from Velocity, a growth capital platform backed by Peter Thiel's Valar Ventures.

Based in Bengaluru, India, WaterScience offers more than 40 products across various categories, including shower and tap filters, appliance filters, kitchen filters, water softeners, and whole-house filtration systems. The startup aims to address critical water quality issues that affect over 95% of household water use beyond drinking.

Hard water, which affects 70% of Indian homes, causes widespread skin, hair, and appliance damage. WaterScience's products are designed to filter out contaminants such as hard water, chlorine, and other impurities.

Atul Khichariya, co-founder and COO of Velocity, expressed pride in their long-standing partnership with WaterScience. "We are thrilled to support WaterScience in their mission to make water safer and healthier for Indian homes," he said.

WaterScience, which was founded in 2014, pioneered the shower and tap filter category in India. The non-drinking water filtration segment, which accounts for 95% of household consumption, largely remains unaddressed.

The funding will support WaterScience's expansion into new markets and strengthen both digital and offline sales channels. The startup plans to use the funds to accelerate its growth, strengthen brand marketing initiatives, and introduce new product categories.

Pavithra Rao, co-founder of WaterScience, stated that the funding received is a validation of their mission. "This investment is a testament to the impact we are making in the lives of millions of Indians by providing them with cleaner, safer water," she said.

WaterScience has reported 70% year-on-year growth and has a presence across Amazon, Flipkart, Shopify, and over 1,000 offline retailers. The market for whole-home water solutions is projected to grow at 15% CAGR through 2028.

The startup aims to reach an additional 1 million households in fiscal year 2025-26. With this funding, WaterScience is well-positioned to meet this goal and continue its mission of providing cleaner, safer water to homes across India.
