WCOOP Satellites: A Breakdown of Tournament Options for Participants

Kickstart Your Online Poker Adventure with WCOOP!

Brace yourself, poker enthusiasts! September 6th is upon us, and that means it's time for the World Championship of Online Poker (WCOOP)! To help you secure your spot in this epic event, we've got the lowdown on the various satellite formats available, courtesy of PokerStars pro Mickey Petersen.

Deadline Satellites: Value City!

These bad boys offer some of the best bang for your buck. Starting roughly an hour before the target tournament, they guarantee a hefty number of seats (usually around 100 or more). The buy-ins are generally about one-third the cost of the WCOOP buy-in. If they're still too rich for your blood, there are plenty of feeder satellites to choose from. Just keep in mind that once the WCOOP tournament starts, you won't be able to unregister and reclaim your tournament dollars. So pick your battles wisely!

FPP Satellites: The No-Money Money-Maker

If you've got a stack of FPP points and no intention of spending real cash, these satellites are perfect for you. Buy-ins range from 1 FPP to 100,000, with turbo or hyper-turbo formats available. There are two kinds of FPP satellites: direct qualifiers that net you a seat with a win, and multi-stage satellites that require several rounds to secure a ticket. For instance, scoring a Main Event seat worth $5,200 in a multi-stage satellite might require advancing through 8 rounds. Choose a round that fits your FPP budget and get to it!

Turbo Rebuys: Action Overload

Qualifiers are the crowd-pleasers, especially for turbo tournament fans. They run 'round the clock and promise more seats than the target tournament. My advice is to jump in only if you're prepared to rebuy, as add-ons usually come with more chips than a rebuy, providing an advantage for those who last longer in these tournaments. Set aside some dough – around ten buy-ins should do the trick – for tournaments such as a $1R 3x.

Other Satellites: variety is the spice of life

There are plenty more satellite formats to explore. Take Hyper Deeps, where you start with 500 big blinds and the tournament turbo-charges as it progresses. Deepstacks, with the same starting stack, runs at a regular pace. If you're looking for a quick win and a WCOOP seat, turbo SNGs might be your jam. In the PokerStars lobby, you'll find a wealth of hyper sit-and-go tournaments, including steps that lead to $215, $700, and $2,100 Championship tournaments.

WCOOP Schedule: Mark Your Calendars

You can find the schedule for all satellites, including Championship tournaments, in the PokerStars lobby under the Online Events - WCOOP tab.

A Tale of Triumph: maratik's Epic Win

Let's not forget the inspiring story of Marat "maratik" Sharaputdinov, who qualified for the 2012 WCOOP Main Event through a multi-round satellite for just 40 FPP points. His victory netted him an astounding $1,000,907.26. So, folks, anything is possible!
