Calgary Stampeders Dominate Edmonton Elks, Kenny Lawler Shines in Offensive Showcase

In a week filled with exciting Labour Day games, the Calgary Stampeders stood out with a dominant defensive performance against the Edmonton Elks. The Stampeders held the Elks to 328 yards of net offence, seven points, and forced two takeaways, improving their record to 8-3 on the season.

The defensive masterclass was led by Jacob Roberts, who was named Defensive Player of the Week. Roberts, an American linebacker in his second year with the Stampeders, recorded nine defensive tackles, one special teams tackle, one sack, and one forced fumble. His impressive display saw him lead the team with 59 tackles, ranking second in the CFL for tackles overall.

On the offensive side, Kenny Lawler continued his stellar season. The receiver is only 32 yards shy of 1,000 yards on the season and was named Offensive Player of the Week. Lawler caught all nine passes thrown his way for 123 yards and two touchdowns, including what appeared to be the game-winner with 22 seconds remaining.

Lawler's heroics were echoed by Tyler Ternowski, who was named Special Teams Player of the Week. Ternowski blocked a punt from John Haggerty and scored a touchdown, contributing significantly to the Stampeders' victory.

The Stampeders' defensive coordinator, Bob Slowik, was also recognised for his efforts, being named Coach of the Week.

Meanwhile, in the Labour Day Classic in Hamilton, the Toronto Argonauts and Hamilton Tiger-Cats put on a thrilling show. The game featured remarkable catches, a ton of points, several lead changes, two packed stadiums, and two incredible finishes.

The highlight of the game came on the second-last play, when Dejon Brissett made an incredible catch for the Argonauts. This set up Lirim Hajrullahu to kick a game-winning 10-yard field goal with one second left on the clock, securing a thrilling victory for the Argonauts.

In another standout performance, Erik Brooks of the Calgary Stampeders was named Breakout Player of the Week. Brooks broke a punt return for a touchdown against Edmonton, adding to his growing reputation as a dynamic player.

Despite the excitement, it's worth noting that the Edmonton Elks vs Calgary Stampeders game was criticised by some as the worst game of the week. However, the Labour Day games in Regina and Hamilton are tied for the best game of the week, according to many football enthusiasts.

In conclusion, the Canadian Football League saw a week of exciting games, with the Calgary Stampeders and Kenny Lawler shining in particular. The Labour Day Classics in Regina and Hamilton provided unforgettable moments, with the Toronto Argonauts and Dejon Brissett emerging as heroes in their respective games.
