Week of Cultural Immersion, Interaction, and Melodies in Osnabrück at the Fresh Culture Festival
In the heart of northern Germany, the city of Osnabrück is preparing for a vibrant celebration of cultural diversity. The Festival of Cultures, a cherished event that has been a beacon of inter-cultural encounters for over 20 years, is set to return from September 13 to September 30.
Elizabeth Tiemann, the chairwoman of the Damayan association, who has been an active figure in Osnabrück for over 35 years, will once again be a part of this colourful event. The Damayan association will offer traditional Philippine dance, adding a unique flavour to the festival's programme.
The Festival of Cultures promotes peaceful, open coexistence and stands firmly against racism and discrimination. More than 60 associations from around 25 nations will participate, presenting country-specific cuisine, information, actions, and a diverse program with around 25 contributions from dance and music.
The opening weekend of the festival is on September 13 and 14. On September 13, free admission is available from 7 pm to 11 pm, with performances by Dikanda (Poland), Divanhana (Bosnia and Herzegovina), and Telli Turnalar (a women's band). The performance on September 13 will feature music from Anatolia, with energetic rhythms, emotional voices, and a musical journey through Eastern Europe and the Middle East.
On September 14, the traditional Festival of Cultures will take place from 1 pm to 7 pm. The Basmah Women's Association and the Muslim Youth Community Osnabrück Land e. V. are presenting themselves at the festival for the first time, offering information and advice on their activities.
The Festival of Cultures is organized by the city's Office for Peace Culture in cooperation with numerous associations, initiatives, and cultural institutions. Close and trusting cooperation with international cultural associations is crucial for peaceful coexistence and cohesion in Osnabrück.
Mayor Katharina Pötter states that Osnabrück sees itself as an open-minded city. The festival emphasizes cultural diversity, lived encounters, and artistic expression. The program includes artistic confrontations, political discussions, personal encounters, a Fado evening, a jazz concert, and performances by two guitar virtuosos from Anatolia and Andalusia.
For those interested in the complete program, it can be found online. The festival's organisers encourage everyone to join in this celebration of cultural diversity and unity, reinforcing Osnabrück's reputation as a city that values and promotes peaceful coexistence and open-mindedness.
