Weekend Arrest Operations by BPOL NRW: Federal Police Enact Weekend Arrest Warrants

In the past week, several significant incidents have taken place in Germany, involving the Federal Police and foreign nationals.

On June 2025, a 33-year-old Polish citizen was arrested by the Federal Police on the A3 highway near Kleve. The man, who was in custody, was found to have two grams of hashish on him. The Osnabrück Public Prosecutor's Office was looking for a Romanian with an arrest warrant for exhibitionistic acts, but it was unclear whether this individual was connected to the Polish suspect.

On the same day, a 46-year-old Albanian was checked by the Federal Police on the A52 motorway near Kleve, Emmerich, Gronau, and Niederkrüchten. The Albanian was wanted by the Dresden Public Prosecutor's Office with an enforcement warrant for residential burglary, and upon his arrest, a data check also revealed an entry and residence ban by the Dresden Foreigners' Office was in effect against him.

The following day, July 18, another Albanian, this time a 25-year-old, was checked at the train station in Gronau. The Cottbus Public Prosecutor's Office has an arrest warrant for a Czech for smuggling foreigners, but it's not clear if this individual is the same person.

In a separate incident, a 49-year-old Czech entered the federal territory on Friday evening on the A61 motorway as a passenger in rail replacement traffic. Since the Czech could not pay the fine, he was delivered to the prison in Willich to serve his sentence. The Czech still has a fine of 8900 euros or an 89-day prison sentence to serve.

The Federal Police reintroduced temporary border controls at all land Schengen internal borders on September 16, 2024, upon order of the Federal Minister of the Interior and Homeland. This measure was in place during the week, with the Albanian taken to the Federal Police Station in Kempen after the completion of police measures, and subsequently, the Albanian was taken to the prison in Willich.

The convicted Romanian had a fine of 2600 euros and a 65-day prison sentence to serve. Since he could not pay the fine, he was taken to the prison in Münster to serve his sentence after completion of the police measures. The convicted Albanian has a remaining sentence of 404 days to serve.

These incidents highlight the ongoing efforts of the Federal Police to maintain order and security within Germany's borders. The temporary border controls, though not permanent, serve as a reminder of the importance of vigilance and enforcement in ensuring the safety and wellbeing of the country's citizens.
