Weekly Highlight: Professor Ellen Perry Recognized as Crusader of the Week
In the vibrant academic community of Holy Cross, one name stands out – Ellen Perry. Known for her passion and dedication, Perry is a renowned figure in the discipline of Classical Art and Archaeology.
Born and raised in Washington, D.C., Professor Perry's love for the ancient world was kindled early. Her favourite classical figure, Antoninus Pius, serves as a testament to her enduring fascination with history.
Perry's research focuses on Roman Art and Architecture, as well as modern reactions to ancient art. She delves deep into the intricacies of these subjects, striving to bridge the gap between the past and the present.
When not immersed in her research, Perry finds solace in the simple pleasures of life. Her days are made better by acts of kindness, time spent with friends, and the warmth of fresh-baked goods. A cup of Harney & Sons black currant tea, her favourite drink, often accompanies these moments.
In the realm of literature, Perry's taste is as diverse as her interests. She is an avid reader of fiction, with Ann Patchett's Bel Canto, Vladimir Nabokov's Pnin, and George Eliot's Middlemarch among her favourites. For non-fiction, Elaine Scarry's On Beauty and Being Just holds a special place in her heart.
The classroom is where Perry truly shines. Her favourite college class, Greek Epic, is a testament to her passion for teaching. Every semester, she finds joy in watching her students go above and beyond, as they immerse themselves in the course material.
On campus, Perry's favourite spot is the circulation desk in Dinand. It's here that she finds a sense of peace, surrounded by the countless books and knowledge that the library offers.
Outside of academia, Perry finds inspiration in a good photograph. She also cherishes the moments when she returns home to be greeted by her dog, Baxter.
Music is another source of joy for Professor Perry. Olivia Rodrigo's "get him back!" is currently her favourite song.
Looking ahead, Perry is excited about two cooking lessons she has lined up for spring break. As for the future, she remains committed to her research and teaching, inspiring generations of students to delve into the wonders of the ancient world.
As we celebrate the graduation of Jacob Wu in 2024, we also acknowledge the invaluable contributions of professors like Ellen Perry, who continue to shape the minds and hearts of Holy Cross students.
