Weekly police report from the Ottawa Valley: Driver from G1 class charged with impaired driving; teenager sustains severe injuries following a collision involving a dirt bike
In Smiths Falls, a local resident is facing several charges after an alcohol-related incident on August 31. According to Renfrew OPP, the 27-year-old driver was charged with operation while impaired - alcohol, operation while impaired - blood-alcohol concentration (80 plus), novice driver - blood-alcohol concentration above zero, driving without an unaccompanied driver as a class G1 driver, driving at an unlawful hour as a class G1 driver, driving a motor vehicle with liquor readily available, and unlawfully driving in a construction zone.
The incident took place on Highway 60, where the driver's vehicle struck a hydro pole in Perth. The transport and its load of lumber were towed from the scene following the collision. Unfortunately, the name of the driver charged has not been disclosed in the available search results.
In a separate incident, a 15-year-old male was involved in a collision on the K & P Trail near Ashdad Road on September 3. The male was riding alone and no other vehicles were involved. Fortunately, the male was wearing a helmet at the time of the collision and was located by his parents after the incident.
The highway reopened at about 10:30 p.m. following the incident on August 31. It is reported that the vehicle fled the scene and drove through a construction zone before getting stuck. The collision occurred at about 8:45 a.m.
