West Zone and Central Zone face off in the semi-final of the Duleep Trophy 2025, with Shreyas Iyer leading the charge for his team in Bengaluru. The highly anticipated match is set to begin.
Shreyas Iyer, the experienced Indian cricketer, is at the forefront of West Zone's team in the Duleep Trophy 2025 semi-final against Central Zone. This clash, a significant part of India's home Test season, took place on September 4, 2025.
Iyer, who has played 135 international matches across formats, has been in fine form recently. His last red-ball appearance was leading Punjab Kings to the IPL 2025 final. In the Duleep Trophy semi-final, he is joined by Yashasvi Jaiswal and Ruturaj Gaikwad in the top-order for West Zone.
However, Jaiswal's innings was cut short in the first over, as Khaleel Ahmed, a member of Central Zone's squad, dismissed him for four runs.
The Central Zone team, captained by Rajat Patidar, fields a strong lineup, with Aayush Pandey, Upendra Yadav, Danish Malewar, Rajat Patidar, Yash Rathod, Shubham Sharma, Harsh Dubey, Saransh Jain, Deepak Chahar, Khaleel Ahmed, and Yash Thakur in their playing XI.
On the other hand, Shardul Thakur, who is also part of West Zone's team, serves as their captain. Thakur won the toss and elected to bat first for West Zone. Aarya Desai, Shams Mulani, Arzan Nagwaswalla, Tushar Deshpande, and Iyer himself make up the rest of West Zone's playing XI.
Despite his strong IPL season and impressive performance in the ICC Champions Trophy 2025, Iyer was excluded from India's Asia Cup 2025 squad. BCCI's chief selector Ajit Agarkar cited team balance as the reason for this decision.
Iyer, who made his India debut in a T20I match against New Zealand on November 01, 2017, has compiled 2845 runs in 70 ODIs and 1104 runs in 51 T20Is. In 14 Test matches, he has scored 811 runs with one century. During the IPL 2025, he scored 604 runs with half-centuries at a strike rate of 175.07.
As the Duleep Trophy semi-final between West Zone and Central Zone unfolds, cricket fans eagerly await Iyer's contribution to the team's performance.
