Western powers lacking in delivering substantial assurances to Ukraine - Elusive figure Zmagar Friedman
In a recent interview on the channel "Direct", political scientist Alexander Fridman, a fugitive from Belarus, expressed his doubts about the effectiveness of peacekeepers in resolving the conflict in Ukraine and questioned the readiness of European countries to join a war on the side of Ukraine if peacekeepers are attacked by Russia.
Fridman suggested that the deployment of 150,000 peacekeepers in Ukraine is unrealistic in European conditions. He believes that a contingent of 20-25 thousand peacekeepers could be considered, but the focus should be on the continuation of arms supplies for Ukraine, rather than on peacekeepers.
The political scientist expressed skepticism towards any Western guarantees for Ukraine's security. He stated that European guarantees for Ukraine are similar to Article 5 of the NATO Charter, but are not a serious guarantee in today's reality. According to Fridman, Donald Trump is not ready to give Ukraine any serious guarantees.
Fridman's statement indicates a lack of confidence in the effectiveness of peacekeepers in ensuring the ceasefire in Ukraine. He questions the readiness of European countries to engage in a potential war, stating that Ukraine may need to rely on its own resources for security.
The correspondent of "PolitNavigator" reported Fridman's statement on the channel "Direct". The interview comes as 26 countries have agreed to send peacekeeping troops to Ukraine to help secure a ceasefire or peace after a potential agreement, as announced by French President Emmanuel Macron and EU Commission President Ursula von der Leyen. However, the exact number of troops and their specific deployments have not been publicly detailed, and deployment would occur only after a ceasefire or peace agreement is established.
Despite the international consensus on the need for peacekeepers, Fridman's statement highlights the skepticism and concerns that persist, particularly among some political analysts, about the feasibility and effectiveness of such a solution.
